Susan Mauler Grimes, DVM
Dr. Grimes graduated from Kansas Sate University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. She moved to the Auburn area and began working at Animal Clinic at Lake of the Pines in 1991. In 2004, she purchased the hospital. Dr. Grimes enjoys the variety and challenges of veterinary medicine; including surgery, dentistry, medical work ups and patient care. She is especially appreciative of the long term relationships with many of the pets and their families. She and her husband are active in the community and both of her children have attended or still attend local schools. She loves her dog, Poppy, a black Labrador. Over the years, she has also enjoyed having some much loved cats in her family.
Claire Hardy, DVM
Dr. Claire Hardy is our Associate Veterinarian. She was a proud graduate of the class of 1990 from the prestigious UC Davis Veterinary School. She is married and has 2 precious kids. She enjoys sewing, hiking, reading, cooking and anything that takes her outside. She currently only has 1 dog, however she loves cats and has owned many in her lifetime.
Linda Fossum, DVM
Dr. Fossum was born and raised in Southern California. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, Davis, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1975. She returned to UC Davis, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1981.
After being involved for several years in small animal practice in the Glendale area of So. California, Dr. Fossum relocated to Nevada County in 1988. Dr. Fossum worked for many years in general practice in Auburn and Grass Valley prior to joining Animal Clinic at Lake of the Pines. Her professional interests include preventive care, feline medicine, behavior, dermatology, and low stress handling. She enjoys client education and encouraging positive interactions that enhance the human animal bond. Dr. Fossum is grateful for the opportunity to provide compassionate care and to learn from her patients, who have so much to teach.
In her spare time away from veterinary medicine, Dr. Fossum enjoys spending time with her three dogs and two cats. She also enjoys gardening, music, camping, and participating in K-9 Nose Work with Clover, her Shih Tzu-Terrier mix.
Lorynne Ammons, Registered Veterinary Technician
Lorynne Ammons is one of our Registered Veterinary Technicians. Lorynne became a licensed technician in 1988. She has 1 daughter and they enjoy horseback riding together. Lorynne also enjoys walking, fishing and spending time in the great outdoors. Her pet family includes 4 dogs, 3 cats and 3 horses.

Animal Clinic at Lake of the Pines works in close partnership with other independent specialists in order to provide the most comprehensive care available.
Bonnie Coyne, DVM, ACVS is a board certified veterinary surgeon who performs orthopedics and complex surgeries. She is mobile and performs the surgeries at our hospital. Our staff provides all the surrounding care, anesthesia and rechecks while your pet has a specialist perform the surgery.
Abigail Dimock, DVM, ACVR is a board certified veterinary radiologist and sonographer who specializes in ultrasounds of the abdomen. She is mobile and performs ultrasounds at our hospital.
Brian MacKie, DVM, ACVIM is an independent veterinary board certified cardiologist. He is mobile and performs heart consultations and cardiac ultrasounds at our hospital.
Justin Uhl DVM, MS, DACVS-SA
Dr. Uhl graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from UC Davis in 2002. He went on to complete a Master’s Degree in comparative pathology with an emphasis on bone biomechanics in 2008 and completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 2010.
Shannon Kerrigan DVM, ACVS
Dr. Kerrigan is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where she obtained her Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris. She completed a small animal medical and surgical internship at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to the west coast to complete a residency in small animal surgery at the University of California at Davis. She is trained in orthopedic, neurologic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive procedures. She has a special interest in surgical oncology and wound repair and has conducted research in the field of bone biomechanics. She is board certified, becoming a a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery in 2018.
