Susan Mauler Grimes, DVM
Dr. Grimes graduated from Kansas Sate University College of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to the Auburn area and began working at Animal Clinic at Lake of the Pines in 1991. In 2004, she purchased the hospital. Dr. Grimes enjoys the variety and challenges of veterinary medicine; including surgery, dentistry, medical work ups and patient care. She is especially appreciative of the long term relationships with many of the pets and their families. She and her husband are active in the community and both of her children have attended local schools.
Lorynne Ammons, Registered Veterinary Technician
Lorynne Ammons is one of our Registered Veterinary Technicians. Lorynne became a licensed technician in 1988. She has 1 daughter and they enjoy horseback riding together. Lorynne also enjoys walking, fishing and spending time in the great outdoors. Her pet family includes 4 dogs, 3 cats and 3 horses.
Dr. Deandra Amaral, DVM
Dr. Deandra Amaral is a 2018 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and has worked exclusively with dogs and cats throughout her career. After several years in general practice, she transitioned to full‑time relief work in 2025, supporting clinics across the greater Sacramento region.
Her clinical interests include dermatology and dentistry. Dr. Amaral believes deeply in the power of strong client–veterinarian relationships and strives to ensure every pet parent feels informed, supported, and valued throughout their pet’s care
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Amaral enjoys life in Plumas Lake with her husband and their two beloved dogs, Cheddar and Colby Jack.
Dr. Jenna Ahrens, DVM
Dr. Jenna Ahrens graduated from UC Davis vet school in 2000 and has been practicing veterinary medicine for 20 years in Placer and Nevada counties. Her veterinary focus is on wellness and preventive care. Her family includes her husband, 3 teenagers, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. She enjoys hiking and beach trips with the dogs, traveling with her family, trying new foods, being a mom, yoga, writing and sketching.
Dr. Kristina Netherwood, DVM
Dr. Kristina Netherwood graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She is passionate about providing compassionate, high-quality care for dogs and cats, with particular interests in soft tissue surgery and medicine.
She enjoys building lasting relationships with pets and their families, helping them navigate everything from routine wellness care to more complex medical and surgical needs. Her goal is to combine evidence-based medicine with clear communication and a personalized approach to each patient.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Netherwood can often be found spending time with her cats, exploring local craft breweries, or enjoying the outdoors hiking and kayaking.

Animal Clinic at Lake of the Pines works in close partnership with other independent specialists in order to provide the most comprehensive care available.
Bonnie Coyne, DVM, ACVS is a board certified veterinary surgeon who performs orthopedics and complex surgeries. She is mobile and performs the surgeries at our hospital. Our staff provides all the surrounding care, anesthesia and rechecks while your pet has a specialist perform the surgery.
Abigail Dimock, DVM, ACVR is a board certified veterinary radiologist and sonographer who specializes in ultrasounds of the abdomen. She is mobile and performs ultrasounds at our hospital.
Brian MacKie, DVM, ACVIM is an independent veterinary board certified cardiologist. He is mobile and performs heart consultations and cardiac ultrasounds at our hospital.
Jon Stack, DVM, ACVIM is an independent veterinary board certified cardiologist. He is mobile and performs heart consultations and cardiac ultrasounds at our hospital.
Justin Uhl DVM, MS, DACVS-SA
Dr. Uhl graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from UC Davis in 2002. He went on to complete a Master’s Degree in comparative pathology with an emphasis on bone biomechanics in 2008 and completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 2010.
Shannon Kerrigan DVM, ACVS
Dr. Kerrigan is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where she obtained her Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris. She completed a small animal medical and surgical internship at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to the west coast to complete a residency in small animal surgery at the University of California at Davis. She is trained in orthopedic, neurologic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive procedures. She has a special interest in surgical oncology and wound repair and has conducted research in the field of bone biomechanics. She is board certified, becoming a a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery in 2018.
